Which Companies Offer Final Expense Insurance In Vermont?

The federal government is not responsible for regulating insurance products. Instead, each state must accept this responsibility, which is why burial policies in the USA often vary from state to state. Below is a table that outlines which providers offer plans in Vermont.

How Does Burial Insurance Work?

Burial insurance is a particular type of whole life insurance with small coverage options, lax underwriting, and fast death benefit payouts. Most people buy these policies specifically to cover funeral costs, but the money can be used for any reason.

Whole life policies have a locked-in premium, and the coverage is guaranteed never to decrease or expire.

To qualify, you generally only have to complete a basic health questionnaire (no exam is required). If approved, you’d be fully covered the day you make your first payment.

Please note that there are policies (such as the Colonial Penn 9.95 plan) that offer guaranteed acceptance. With those, you will be subjected to a two-year waiting period. That means if you die during the waiting period, the insurer will just refund you money rather than pay out the death benefit.

The Free Look Period In Vermont And The FTC Funeral Rule

Sadly, Vermont law does not require life insurance policies to include a free-look period. However, nearly all life insurance companies voluntarily include this provision even though they aren’t required to do so by Vermont. A free-look period allows the policyholder to cancel and receive a refund of any premiums.

That way, if you change your mind or were misled, you have recourse to cancel the policy and receive a refund of your money.

Nationally speaking, the Federal Trade Commission created the Funeral Rule to govern funeral homes. It requires funeral homes to provide written or oral prices upon request from consumers. It also requires them to accept products such as flowers, urns, or caskets from outside vendors.

Lastly, funeral homes cannot force you to accept the pre-packed funeral plans they may offer. You have the right to pick and choose only which products and services you want.
