How Does A 25000 Whole Life Policy Work?

A $25,000 whole life insurance policy is a permanent life plan with a fixed death benefit of 25,000 dollars.

Usually, policies of this size are meant to pay for final expenses. They won’t require a medical exam, rates won’t increase and the policy will never cancel due to age. Rates will vary based on age, gender, and health.

25000 whole life policy

Because it’s a whole life insurance policy, the details are cut and dry. Here’s the fine print you need to be aware of.

  • Fixed rates that cannot increase over time
  • Policy cannot expire at any age
  • Coverage guaranteed to never decrease
  • Builds cash value overtime that you may borrow from

Since it’s life insurance, the end result is simply going to be a tax free cash payout of $25,000 directly to your beneficiary(s).

As is the case with all life insurance proceeds, there are no restrictions or stipulations regarding how the money is spent.

For example, your beneficiary could take the money to Atlantic City and have a great time. Nobody could stop them.

Obviously, that doesn’t happen, but you get the point we’re trying to make. The money can be used for anything.

If you’re buying the policy to cover funeral and other burial expenses, any money leftover would stay with them to use as they deem worthy.

When you think about it, a cash payout is ideal because every business in America takes cash. You’re buying the policy to accomplish a goal, and a cash payout ensures they’ll be able to realize your wishes.

How To Qualify

Buying a $25k face value whole life insurance plan is extremely simple.

There are three basic ways you can qualify. Since the death benefit is only 25k, insurance companies generally only offer non-medical underwriting options.

Fully underwritten life insurance plans can yield lower rates since the insurance company gets urine, blood, and full medical records. However, carriers don’t offer fully underwritten options for plans at $25,000.

1) Simplified Underwriting: Basic Health Questions & No Medical Exam

Some plans offer what’s called “simplified underwriting”. That simply means the insurance company qualifies their applicants based on their answers to a basic health questionnaire along with a prescription history check. No medical exam is required.

Most simplified issue plans offer approvals in as little as 15 minutes up to a couple business days.

All final expense insurance policies have this kind of fast underwriting. These types of plans offer coverage that protects you right away (if you’re approved) & no waiting period.

2) Guaranteed Issue: No Health Questions Or Underwriting Of Any Kind

Commonly seen on TV and in the mail, these plans have no health questions or underwriting of any sort.

The insurance company knows absolutely nothing about your health. You’ll find these policies are often marketed under the term “guaranteed issue” or “guaranteed acceptance”.

At first glance you might think having no health questions is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

But not so fast.

Your acceptance being guaranteed regardless of health comes a price. You’ll face two major concessions for this convenience.

  1. They all have a 2-3 year waiting period. During the defined waiting period the insurance carrier will not pay out a death benefit for any non-accidental death. Instead, the insurance company would simply refund all premium payments plus interest (its usually 10%). After the two years has passed, the full death benefit is forever payable for any reason. The waiting applies to all insurance carriers that offer this kind of plan. There is no policy without health questions that does not have a 2-3 year waiting period.
  2. Prices can be anywhere from 30-300% higher. Since the insurance companies know nothing about the health of their applicants, you can image they are taking on more risk. With more risk comes a higher cost. You’ll find these plans almost always cost much more compared to plans that do have underwriting.

Guaranteed issue life plans are not ideal for most people. However, they are appropriate for some people. They are usually a good fit for folks with super high-risk conditions such as dialysis or Alzheimer’s disease.

3) Non Medical: Stricter Underwriting With No Exam

These plans have a lengthier health questionnaire and stricter underwriting rules while still offering the convenience of not having to take a medical exam.

Approval with these plans can take anywhere from 1-5 business days.

Where these plans greatly differ from final expense policies is twofold.

  1. The cost is lower since the insurance company knows much more about your health (their risk is lower).
  2. Some are “participating” which means the policy death benefit can grow or you can receive dividends.

If you’re in really good health, it’s well worth it to go this route. Getting a policy where the death benefit grows overtime (rates still stay the same) is flat out amazing.

How To Get The Lowest Rate Possible

Doing online research is great. It gives you an idea of what companies are out there and what the approximate cost will be.

However, that is about as far as you’re going to get all by yourself.25000 whole life policy

Here’s the deal

The least expensive life insurance plans are always sold through licensed agencies. They are not sold directly by the insurance companies that offer them.

The only exception to this rule are those no health question policies. But those cost a lot more, so if you’re interested in getting the lowest rate possible, they just won’t suffice.

The point we’re making here is that you will need to work with an agent if you truly want to get the lowest burial insurance rates possible when you buy your $25,000 whole life insurance policy.

But it’s not that simple.

It’s the kind of agent you work with will dictate how good of a deal you get.

Here’s the secret to getting the lowest price possible on your life insurance.

Working with an independent broker who can shop multiple companies will always ensure you find the least expensive life insurance policy possible.

First, you don’t need to pay an independent agent for their services. Second, their whole job is to compare offers from dozens of insurance companies to see which one will approve you for the lowest price.

It’s a simple concept, but it works extremely well.

So your job is to find a reputable highly qualified independent agency that has 10 or more life insurance companies to choose from. Then let them know what you’re looking for and they’ll go to work to find you the best deal.

Here’s Your Only Option If You Can’t Afford $25,000 Final Expense Policy

The prices are what they are.

We posted rates on this page so you can see for yourself what life insurance companies charge for $25k in whole life coverage.

25000 whole life policy

That said, if the rates are just too much for your budget, your only option would be to buy less coverage because they aren’t going to change.

Sure you could get $25,000 in life coverage that costs less that what you see in this article.

However, that would only be possible by purchasing a term life insurance policy that expires one day.

If you want to roll the dice and go with a policy that expires at or before 80, then go for it. We certainly don’t recommend it because well over 90% of term life plans never result in a beneficiaries receiving a check.

However, if you’re committed to having whole life, you’re just going to have to reduce the face amount.

Consider buying $20k, $15k, or a $10k life plan.

The key is to pick an amount that comfortably fits in your budget. Remember, having something is better than nothing.

You’re purchasing the coverage so the money can be used for some specific purpose upon your passing. Your family getting a check for 10K, 15K or 20K will help them solve the problem a lot better than no check at all.

Just buy what you can afford 🙂.
