Using this quote calculator, we compare the price of the insurer’s coverage to competitors with equivalent products. The score they receive is based on how close their price is to those three least expensive providers:

  • 5
    0-5% more expensive
  • 4
    6-10% more expensive
  • 3
    11-20% more expensive
  • 2

No-Waiting-Period Coverage
20% of overall score

This scoring factor assesses whether an insurer offers coverage with no waiting period and, if so, how difficult it is to qualify for it. If an insurer does not provide coverage with no waiting period, it gets an automatic 1. A score from 2 to 5 indicates that immediate coverage is possible, and the higher the rating, the easier it is for the average applicant to qualify for it.

Our Verdict

TruStage life insurance products offer the convenience of an online application without undergoing an exam. But you pay for that convenience via higher prices (and possibly a two-year waiting period) compared to what you could get from other life insurance companies.

Their website is very user-friendly, and policyholders can manage their coverage online, which is very convenient. TruStage has excellent financial ratings and is endorsed by literally thousands of credit unions, which speaks volumes about its trustworthiness.

Overall, their products are competitively priced, and the buying experience is seamless. However, you can absolutely obtain similar coverage at a lower price from many of its competitors.

Pros

  • You can view quotes online without needing to provide contact information, such as a phone number or email address.
  • No medical examination is required.
  • Thousands of positive online reviews.

Cons

  • Prices are higher than most competitors.
  • If you call them, their licensed agents ask for a lot of unnecessary information before providing a quote.
  • Customers often report that it’s tough to qualify for their coverage with no waiting period.

TruStage Life Insurance Policies

According to their products page, TruStage offers three different life insurance policies. None of them require a medical exam, and two of the three require you to answer health questions. You can view quotes and apply fully through their website or by speaking with a licensed agent.

Guaranteed acceptance

With TruStage guaranteed acceptance life insurance, you don’t have to answer any health questions because your approval is guaranteed. There is a two-year waiting period that will result in a refund of your premiums if you die during this time.

It’s a whole life policy, so the coverage will last your entire life, and the premium will never increase.

Whole life

TruStage whole life insurance is permanent coverage with a locked-in premium and death benefit. To qualify, you must complete a health questionnaire. If you’re approved, there is no waiting period, which means you will be fully covered (for natural or accidental death) the day the policy begins.

Term life

TruStage term life insurance is a temporary life insurance policy that has a premium increase every five years. You do have to answer health questions to qualify, and if approved, there is no waiting period. On your 80th birthday, the policy will terminate, leaving you uninsured, and you will not receive a refund of any premiums you have paid.

Seniors over 80 can get life insurance, but the options are limited, and it can get costly (especially if you have pre-existing conditions, which are common at this age).

Is TruStage The Best Place To Buy Life Insurance?

TruStage is a trustworthy company with decently priced life insurance products. Just like with the AARP New York Life Insurance program, if you’re willing to pay a moderately higher premium for the convenience of buying online, then TruStage is a good option to consider.

However, if cost is a key factor for you, consider other providers, as many of them are more affordable. Furthermore, if you have current or prior health issues, TruStage will likely only offer you a policy with a two-year waiting period (on top of a substantial price increase).

Ultimately, many other life insurance companies offer lower rates combined with more favorable underwriting. You could pay less and probably qualify for an immediate death benefit policy.

TruStage Consumer Feedback

Overall, TruStage mainly has a positive reputation with consumers. For example, there are over 10,000 reviews on Trustpilot with an overall score of 4.8 out of 5. The National Association of Insurance Commissioners reports that it has an average number of expected consumer complaints for a company of its size.

Sadly, they are not accredited with the BBB and have a fair number of complaints. However, given their size, it’s not overly alarming.

How To Apply For TruStage Life Insurance Policies

One of the main selling points of TruStage is that you can buy no-medical-exam life insurance for seniors (or younger adults) directly on their website without speaking with an agent. Alternatively, you can call 1-833-374-1544 and apply via phone.

In most cases, TruStage will inform you of your approval or denial within minutes. If approved, you’ll get a paper policy in the mail.

How To File A Death Claim

To file a death claim with TruStage Life Insurance Company, you can do so online or by calling them at 1-800-779-5433. They will require beneficiaries to complete a beneficiary statement and provide a copy of the death certificate.

TruStage is a reputable licensed insurance company with stable financial ratings. You can trust that they can and will abide by the terms of each policy they offer.

TruStage offers a variety of final expense life insurance options. They have guaranteed acceptance whole life, simplified issue whole life and term life. All policies pay out a tax-free cash benefit to the beneficiaries of your choice, which they can use to cover funeral costs, debts, or any other final expenses.

The only policy TruStage sells that has a two-year waiting period is their guaranteed acceptance whole life policy, which does not require you to answer health questions. All other life policies they sell have no waiting period if you’re approved.
