How Does Burial Life Insurance Plans Work?

Final expense policies are a type of whole life insurance aimed at paying for end-of-life expenses. When you pass away, the insurer will pay out the death benefit directly to your family or funeral home. Once claims are approved, the payout time is very quick (usually less than 48 hours).

To qualify, there is no medical exam. Some plans have health questions that determine eligibility, while others offer guaranteed acceptance (with no health questions). Please note that plans without health questions always have a two-year waiting period. Death during the first two years will result in a refund of paid premiums plus roughly 10% interest.

The premiums on a whole life final expense policy never change, and the coverage lasts your entire life. In addition, cash value will accumulate over time, which the policyholder can withdraw and spend as they desire.

Most companies offer coverage ranging from $2,000 to $50,000, although some may have higher or lower limits, depending on the insurer.

The Free Look Period In Kansas And The FTC Funeral Rule

In Kansas, all life insurance policies have a ten-day free-look period, during which the policyholder can cancel the policy and receive a refund of any paid premiums.

This provision protects consumers so they can have peace of mind knowing they can back out of a recently purchased policy should they change their mind or realize they were misled in some way.

On another note, the FTC Funeral Rule protects consumers who are funeral planning. This law governs funeral homes across the nation. It establishes that all funeral homes provide prices (either verbally or in writing) when a consumer requests them.

Furthermore, consumers have the option to choose the products and services they want. They do not have to accept pre-packed burial or cremation plans. It also grants the consumer the right to buy products from third parties rather than the funeral home if they so choose to.
