Our Verdict

Family First Life is a nationally licensed insurance agency that offers a range of insurance products and represents numerous reputable insurance providers.

As a broker, they have the freedom to compare multiple companies side by side to find each client the best policy possible. They have agents in all 50 states who can meet you in person or are available via telephone.

Online feedback about the company is overwhelmingly from past or current sales agents, as seen on websites such as Reddit, Indeed, or Glassdoor. Alternatively, customer feedback is scarce, but there is no indication that they mistreat their policyholders in some systemic way.

Pros

  • Has a vast array of insurance companies and products to choose from to suit your needs.
  • There are hundreds of field offices if you prefer to meet in person (and live close to one).
  • The company makes donations to numerous charitable causes.

Cons

  • There is no licensing information on their website.
  • Their website does not display quotes, but it makes it seem as though they do.
  • Very little online information about their experience with customers.

Who Is Family First Life?

Family First Life, also known as “FFL,” is one of the largest insurance agencies in the United States. They are licensed in all states to sell life insurance, health insurance, Medicare products, and annuities. However, the primary products they market are final expense insurance and mortgage protection insurance.

It’s important to note that Family First Life is not an insurance company that underwrites insurance policies. They are a broker that partners with dozens of insurance providers, including Mutual of Omaha, John Hancock, AIG, and many more.

Being a broker is not a cause for concern. Quite the opposite, it’s a very good thing. Because they freely represent multiple insurers, they can match each client with the product that best suits their needs.

Their website does not allow you to quote or buy insurance entirely online. To get a quote or buy insurance through a Family First Life agency, you must either physically meet one of their agents or speak to them verbally via telephone.

To learn more about who they are, visit the about section of their website.

Family First Life Insurance Products

Family First Life offers an extensive product selection, as it contracts with dozens of insurance companies. That said, they focus on four main types of insurance.

Final expense insurance

Final expense life insurance (aka “burial insurance” or “funeral insurance”) is a small whole life policy that doesn’t require an exam. Coverage options are typically small, ranging from $2,000 to $50,000, allowing you to purchase just enough to cover cremation or burial costs.

When you die, the insurance company will pay cash directly to your loved ones, which they can spend on anything (not just funeral costs).

Mortgage protection

Mortgage protection insurance is a marketing term that typically refers to a term life insurance policy.

If you die while the policy is in force, it will pay a cash benefit, allowing your loved ones to settle the remaining mortgage balance or any other outstanding expenses.

Indexed universal life

Indexed universal life is a type of permanent life insurance that is often used to supplement retirement. It builds cash value that grows with each payment, in addition to accrued interest based on the insurance company’s chosen stock market index.

You’re entitled to withdraw the cash value and spend it with no restrictions at any time.

Fixed index annuities

A fixed index annuity offers ironclad guarantees that your principal will never decrease. The upside gains are lower since the principal is fully protected.

For the risk-averse, a fixed income annuity offers a secure way to park your money for retirement.
