How Is Whole Life Different Than Term Life And Guaranteed Acceptance?

Below is an overview of the differences between each type of policy.

  • Term life insurance: A form of temporary life insurance that is due to expire after a predetermined number of years or once the insured reaches a certain age. Upon reaching the termination point, the policy ends, and there is no longer any insurance in place. Some companies sell term life insurance with fixed prices for the life of the policy. However, some companies (such as Globe Life Insurance Company) sell term life insurance with a premium that increases every five years.
  • Whole life insurance: A type of permanent life insurance with guarantees that the premium will not increase, the death benefit can’t decrease, and the coverage remains in place forever. Additionally, it builds cash value, which the policy owner can borrow from and spend as they see fit.
  • Guaranteed issue: A type of whole life insurance that does not require the applicant to answer health questions, nor do they have to endure a medical exam. Because approval is guaranteed, there is a two-year waiting period. If the insured dies during the first two years, the insurance company will only refund the premiums paid plus approximately 10% interest.

It’s worth noting that term life insurance will always cost less than whole life (for the same coverage amount). Term is cheaper because the policy expires, whereas whole life does not.
